Gipsy Shoe

Gipsy Shoe
12" x 9"
Graphite and Oil Pastel

I decided to draw a shoe that I found at a friends house (they didn't know that I took it but it was okay because I returned it two days later). I feel that the shoe is drawn well but the background makes me -- eh.
It doesn't feel balanced (too much purple, not enough green) but I feel like there is some movement in it; am I right or just crazy or both?

  1. Very colorful and nice contrasting ideas. The shoe is in the center which is what is creating the tension, along with the lines emphasizing this. If you had some more spirals, as a distraction or to continue to occupy the empty spaces. The shoe texture is so different from the color, try integrating them more.

  2. The thing that I find unbalanced about the piece is more that the shoe is done in these muted grey colors while the background is bright, sharp, and vibrant. I think that this might be an "unbalance factor"... possibly... just puttin' it out there...
