Figure Drawing

Figure??
18" x 24"
Conte Crayon

Well as you can see this is not even close to done. I need to fix the angles of the box thing that I made and I need to address the background. If anyone has any ideas of what i should put in the background, say them because I really hate making a background. I also need to work on the feet (something that i also hate to draw). All ideas and suggestions are appreciated.

  1. This is coming along very nicely Neil. Your contrast is great along with your placement of shadows and the proportions of the body. One thing you might want to do is think a little bit more on the placement of the shadows on the body created by the arms. They seem... off... I don't know how else to describe it. but other than that; this looks really nice! keep up the good work!

  2. Neil, this looks amazing! The proportions are perfect as is the shading, especially on the arms and stomach. I like the box and it's very well rendered except for the angle (which you already know). For the background, maybe you could do some sort of single or double color gradient with pastels. Or you could draw other students drawing the model, which would be tricky. I would say, though, that the background shouldn't be too dark because the contrast is great right now. Keep up the good work!

  3. First, I really love the way that the head is. Even though it's not finished, I like how suggestive it is. The figure could be ANYONE... As far as the background goes, maybe suggest the rest of the room? Like, outline the other figures at their desks? Idk, just an idea. Omg, just looked at Alex's comment, why does she always steal my thunder? Anyway, I still agree with the statement. Or maybe just add in an empty room, with the corners of the walls and some blank windows? But overall, it looks really good!

  4. NEIL! This is amazing! It is so soft and rounded and I love the form, especially the contrast on the arms. Your light-source is very defined, but I feel like some of it gets lost in the legs. The one on top (her right leg?) is almost too continuous, like there isn't a distinction between calf and thigh. Maybe you could hint at the knee and shade the calf a little differently. It's very shiny, though, and I really like that. I also like the face and how wild her hair is! Awesome contrast there. Oh and the box is cool. :) On the shading note, you could try adding some more midtones to her tummy. It's a little bit...spherical, in a way? If you know what i mean? It kind of looks like her tummy is just a little button and then the rest recedes back. Some softening would be nice

  5. This is great! It's nicely rendered. I love the contrast. However, I think her right foot-to-knee part should be dark since it is behind her left leg and far away from the light. Anyways,Good Job!

  7. I love this so far! The contrast and shading looks so realistic! The only thing that needs a little work is the head, but I know you don't wanna focus on that.
